FIRST MEDALLIST FOAL BORN
AT KEENELAND JANUARY SALE
Three Chimneys Farm announced today the arrival of Medallist's first foal, foaled at the Keeneland Sales Barn # 32, to Hip # 2428. The bay colt was foaled on Sunday morning, January 14, at about 1 a.m., said Three Chimneys Director of Sales Case Clay.
"He's a good sized baby and we're pleased with him," said Clay. "He certainly found a great way to make his mother stand out in the sale, and for his sire's first foal to be distinctive!" Clay estimated the mare and her new foal would go through the ring sometime between 2 and 3 this afternoon.
The colt is out of Waterland, by Explodent, and was bred by Dr. K.K. Jayaraman. He is a half-brother to four winners, including Royal Medal, a winner of $91,729. Waterland's third dam is South Ocean - dam of champions Northernette and Storm Bird, and blue hen mares Stormette, Oceana, and Ocean's Answer.
Medallist, by Touch Gold out of a Star de Naskra mare, is the first homebred to stand at Three Chimneys. He won the G2 Dwyer S., G3 Withers S., G3 Deputy Minister H. and Kenny Noe Jr. H. in twelve starts. "In his four stakes wins, he set three track or stakes records at three different tracks and at three different distances, ranging from 6-1/2 furlongs to 8-1/2 furlongs," pointed out Clay, who is also the Medallist syndicate manager. "He had remarkable speed and if Medallist passes that along to his foals, we're all set." He stands for $8,500 live foal, payable September 1.
