Exchange Rate's 1st stakes winner for 2008 is POINTING STAR (04 c. o/o Stubborn Star, by Star Choice) won a $53,000 allowance race at Hollywood Park on May 3. Trailing the pack for the first three quarters, he made his move turning from home and got up to win by a head, bringing his bankroll to $88,360. Owner: Sid-ney and Jenny Craig and Halo Farms. POINT CHANEL (05 f. o/o Runaway Chanel, but Runaway Groom) notched her first win in a $24,000 maiden special at Lone Star Park on May 3. She had a rough start coming out of the gate, but rallied past her rivals in the stretch to win by a length. She has now earned $29,320, hitting the board in four of six efforts. THAT'S A GIVEN (03 c. o/o Dame Avie, by Lord Gaylord) was first under the wire in a one mile conditions test at Mountaineer Racetrack on May 5. After cruising in hand for the first half, the winner accelerated when asked, passing his rivals in mid stretch to win by a widening six and a quarter lengths. SHE'S SENSATIONAL (04 f. o/o Blushing Issue, by Blushing John) won a mile turf allowance at Bay Meadows on April 30 by a half length. She settled well off the pace, started her bid on the outside on the second turn, came three wide into the stretch and rallied determinedly to get up in the final strides. MS MARGARET H. (05 f. o/o Cherry d'Or, by Cassaleria) won a 7 f. maiden special at Churchill Downs on April 29 by two and a half lengths. Settled far off the early pace, she angled out on the turn, moved to the front inside the sixteenth pole and drew clear. POINT PERFECT (04 f. o/o Nwport Beach, by Maria's Mon) won by a half length going 6 f. at Churchill Downs on April 26. GO BETWEEN (03 h. o/o Mediation (IRE), by Caerleon) a multiple graded stakes winner, rallied for second place in the $150,000 Ben Ali Stakes (G3) at Keeneland on April 20. A stakes winner on turf, dirt, and all weather surfaces, he was forced to race wide for the majority of the event and brought his bankroll to $2,033,880 with his effort. Owner: Peter Vegso. THAT'S A GIVEN (03 g. o/o Dame Avie, by Lord Gaylord) earned his second win this year at Mountaineer Racetrack on April 22. Going a mile on the dirt, he stayed with the pack for the first half mile, then made a bid for the lead and pulled away from the field in mid-stretch to win by three and a half lengths. LOTTA GAMBLE (04 g. o/o Arabian Peninsula, by Mr. Prospector) won by four and a quarter lengths going 6 f. at Turf Paradise on April 14. Tenth and eleventh at the first two calls, she made her way up to third at the top of the stretch, and closed fast through the final furlong to prevail. GO BETWEEN (03 c. o/o Mediation (IRE), by Caerleon) became a multi-millionaire with his second place finish in the $1,000,000 Santa Anita H. [G1] going 1-1/4 m. over the all weather track at Santa Anita on March 1. He rallied willingly to be beaten just three-quarters of a length for the win. THUNDER CHARM (05 c. o/o Buy A Bracelet, by Silver Charm) won a mile maiden at Laurel Raceourse on February 29 by four lengths. Point Given is now the Leading Sire of North America after GO BETWEEN (03 c. o/o Mediation (IRE), by Caerleon) won the $1,000,000 Sunshine Millions Classic going 1-1/8 m. over the all weather track at Santa Anita on January 26 by two lengths and set a new track record of 1:45.64. He's undefeated and has set two new track records in each of his all weather track starts - both of which were stakes races. He won the Fayette S. [G3] at Keeneland in his polytrack debut last October. He's now won or placed in 17 of his 22 career starts and earned $1,803,880. He was also the second Sunshine Millions winner of the day for owner / breeder Peter Vegso - who also won the Sunshine Millions Turf with Three Chimneys-sired WAR MONGER (by War Chant, see below).

The website Sahorseracing.com was impressed by the race, writing, "The impressive United States bred Melrose Point recorded her third empathic victory at the Vaal. Šshe overcame the relatively difficult draw to find a good early position. ŠAt the 400m mark, she drew a length clear of the field with the jockey barely moving on her. Strydom looked over his shoulder for challengers 200m from home but the race was practically over as a contest. Melrose Point, was eased down to the wire. She won by 3 lengths effortlessly. That makes three juvenile stakes horses and four 2-year-old winners already from Point Given's second crop of 12 starters. A Point Given colt brought $750,000 at the Barretts March Selected Two-year-olds Sale this week. He's out of Merengue, by Broad Brush, and was a $290,000 Keeneland September yearling. Robert and Beverly Lewis purchased the colt from Wavertree Stables.

After Book 1, Point Given was North America's 19^TH Leading Sire of Sales Yearlings and Leading Freshman Sire of Sales Yearlings, with an average of $313,889 for the yearling sales of 2004. Point Given had seven yearlings sell in Book I, averaging $306,428. The leaders were Hip # 475, a colt out of Classic Threat, sold by Anderson Farms and purchased by Robert B. and Beverly Lewis for $800,000 and Hip # 240, a colt out of Crafty Queen, sold by Eaton Sales and purchased by Whitehorse Stables for $450,000.
