Silver Charm doing quite well in Japan
October 30, 2008

Our sources at the JBBA Shichinohe Stallion Station in Japan tell us that Silver Charm is doing quite well. He is in very good health and enjoys spending his days romping around his paddock and munching on the lush grass.

He still has the same great personality and presence that he's always possessed and is a favorite of both his handlers and his many fans in Japan.

Three Chimneys will continue to stay in regular contact with the JBBA regarding Silver Charm and will post more pictures in the future.

Silver Charm elected to the Hall of Fame
May 29, 2007

Silver Charm, the seventh richest North American thoroughbred of all time, was elected to the National Museum of Racing's Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2007.

The Thoroughbred Daily News wrote of Silver Charm's election: "Racing from 1996 through 1999 for trainer Bob Baffert, Silver Charm won 12 of 24 starts and earned $6,994,369 in purse money, good for seventh on the career earnings list. Silver Charm rose to prominence in 1997 when he edged Captain Bodgit by a head in the G1 Kentucky Derby and prevailed by a head over Free House in the G1 Preakness S. The Florida-bred son of Silver Buck had the lead in the stretch of the G1 Belmont S. and appeared poised to complete the sweep of the Triple Crown, but was passed by Touch Gold late. He was the champion 3-year-old. "I'm thrilled to pieces," said Beverly Lewis. "He's the horse that people just love. I'm just so happy that he's there where he belongs."

He will be inducted on Monday, August 6 at the Fasig-Tipton Sales Pavilion in Saratoga Springs, NY along with Mom's Command, Swoon's Son, Jose Santos, John Sellers, John Veitch, Henry Forrest and Frank McCabe.

Silver Charm begins second season in Japan
March 6, 2006

Silver Charm began his second season at stud in Japan on March 4, covering his first mare that day. He has acclimated very well to life in Japan. To see photos of him, just click on the March 6, 2006 option at right.

Last year, he covered 102 mares and 85 foals are expected. We were advised on March 7 that ten foals had already arrived and we could expect foal photos shortly.

The JBBA also advised that all three of the Silver Charm offspring imported to Japan are winners. They include EISHIN SEIAN (01 c.) who has won or placed in five of his nine starts, BE AHEAD (01 f.) who has won or placed four times and MARABUTSU SILVER (02 c.) who has two wins and four thirds from 13 starts.
March 23 visit with Silver Charm
Report by Dan Rosenberg, Three Chimneys president

Case Clay and I had the pleasure of visiting Silver Charm at his new home in Japan, the Shizunai Stallion Station in Hokkaido on March 23rd. He is happy and doing very well, and he is still being ridden everyday.

Silver Charm has been very well received in Japan, and has 110 mares booked to be bred to him in 2005. We took some pictures of him while we were there and you can view them by clicking on the "March 23, 2005" option at upper right. As you'll see, he is very well cared for and it really was great to see him doing so well.
Silver Charm well received in Japan
Silver Charm was the sire, on Saturday, February 12, of a very impressive maiden winner in Japan. Marubutsu Silver (JPN) (out of Novel Encounter, by Woodman) won a 1-1/8 m. maiden by nine lengths and has increased the already strong interest in Silver Charm in Japan. We're told Silver Charm will cover more than 100 mares in 2005.
January 23 Report on Silver Charm
The manager of Shizunai Stallion Station writes us, "Silver Charm is very well. His paddock is next to Boston Harbor's. They are very good friends."

A representative of the JBBA sent seven wonderful photos of Silver Charm (click on box at upper right to view the photos) and he added, "It is very cold in January and February in Hokkaido. The low temperature in Shizunai town is seven or eight degrees below zero (Celsius) and high around zero recently. The snow is about five entimeters deep now."
Silver Charm Arrives at Shizunai Stallion Station
January 4, 2005

We've received our first photos of Silver Charm at his new home in Japan. The report we received on him was "Silver Charm arrived at Shizunai Stallion Station safely and in very good condition on Wednesday, 29th Dec. 2004 after three weeks of import quarantine in Narita. During the entire quarantine, our stallion man attended to Silver Charm, and our veterinarian and stallion man traveled with him for the transport from Narita to Shizunai in Hokkaido. Silver Charm received a very warm welcome when he arrived at our main stallion station."

In short, Silver Charm is doing very well in Japan. To view photos of Silver Charm in his new home, click on the box at the upper right hand of this page marked "Silver Charm Photos".
