$230,000 Saratoga colt for Ice Box

Ice Box was red hot at Saratoga,when a yearling from his first crop brought the highest-price for a colt at the Fasig-Tipton New York Bred Preferred Sale on August 9th.

Hip 302, a bay colt already named Fear That, sold to Nick Zito, agent, for $230,000. That figure was the third highest of the sale for any yearling, and co-highest for a colt. Hall of Famer Zito famously trained Ice Box to victories in the Florida Derby (G1) and a runner-up finish in the Kentucky Derby (G1).  

"Obviously, I'm partial to Ice Box," Zito told the media afterwards. "I think he's going to make it as a stud--that's number one. He's a nice horse, he has all the qualifications."

The $230,000 yearling was consigned by Chris Shelli's Fort Christopher's Thoroughbreds. The March 13 foal is the second foal from his dam, Ghostzapper's daughter Fear This. The second dam is $350,440 Graded stakes winner Susan'sAngel. The colt's second, third, fourth, and fifth dams are all stakes mares and/or stakes producers.

The first yearlings by Ice Box are averaging $101,333 this summer. The son of Pulpit out of Spice Island, by Tabasco Catstood the 2014 season at Three Chimneys for $7,500 live foal.
