It’s ‘Paradise’ in Texas Heritage S.
A Day in Paradise, a 3-year-old by Yes It’s True, turned in an impressive performance in Saturday night’s $50,000 Texas Heritage S. at Sam Houston Park, winning by 3 ¼-lengths for his first stakes win in his stakes debut.

Trained by Larry Jones for Tommy Ligon broke his maiden last October at Keeneland and was most recently second by a nose in a Fair Grounds allowance on Dec. 28.

A Day in Paradise was locked in a front-end duel for six furlongs, then drew off in the stretch win with authority. The final time for the mile was 1:40.38.

Jones and winning rider Kerwin Clark both said A Day in Paradise is a horse with plenty of potential.

“He didn’t even know what he was doing,” said Clark of his mount. “He just thinks he is out there for fun and games. In all honesty, this horse has not even figured it out yet, but it’s going to be fun when he figures out he is a racehorse.”

“He’s a big horse and that’s one of the reasons he’s coming around slowly,” Jones added. “He’ll figure it out, and we’re pretty pleased with him.”

A Day in Paradise is now 2-2-1 in five starts and has earned $73,140. He is one of 19 winners this year by Yes It’s True, who is also the sire of Triple Crown hopeful The Truth or Else, who was second in the Grade 3 Southwest S. on Feb. 22.
