Just Be Kind gives Sky Mesa Saturday stakes double
Saturday, September 10, 2016
Just Be Kind's victory in the $125,000 Ontario Debutante at Woodbine gave Sky Mesa his second new stakes winner on the day, coming not long after Happy Mesa, also a 2-year-old filly, won the Selima S. at Laurel Park.

And like Happy Mesa, Just Be Kind upped her mark to 2-for-2 in scoring her first stakes win. Sky Mesa now has nine stakes winners in 2016.

Just Be Kind was forced to stay well off the fence after breaking from post five, going three wide on the turn and was steadily closing the gap in the stretch before she kicked into high gear in the final furlong to win by a neck in 1:10.21 for the six furlongs on the main track.

β€œIn the turn I was able to settle her down, and get back off those horses and take a bit of a breather,” said winning rider Jim McAleney. β€œI had confidence and faith in this filly. When I called on her on the head of the stretch I just loved the response that I got.”

The winner is trained by Reade Baker, co-owner along with Jus Luk Stable and Richard Mah. The win upped her earnings to $82,940. Just Be Kind is a full sister to the stakes winner D R C's Pretty Sky.
