Sky Mesa's Opportunistic collects first stakes victory
Opportunistic made the most of his start in Friday's $50,000 Chris Loseth H., closing from last at the half-way point of the 1 1/16-mile contest to win by a half-length with a dramatic stretch run.

The 3-year-old son of Sky Mesa, who broke his maiden at Santa Anita in March, was making his first start for trainer Troy Taylor. After tallying near the back of the eight-horse field for nearly six furlongs, Opportunistic swooped four wide around the final turn and continued down the middle of the track in the stretch to take the lead in the final strides.

Kentucky-bred Opportunistic is owned by Mark DeDomenico LLC and North American Thoroughbred Horse Company Inc. The bay is out of Mona Quita, whose dam Staraway won or placed in an incredible 30 stakes in her career.

Opportunistic is Sky Mesa sixth stakes winner this year, led by the Group 1 winner Giulia.
