Yes It's True filly takes fifth stake of 2014

Grade 2 stakes winner La Verdad once again showed true talent in New York, taking her fifth stakes of the year, the $150,000 Iroquois S. Saturday on Belmont's main track.

The 4-year-old daughter of Yes It's True pushed her earnings past $775,000, winning for the tenth time in 15 career outings, including four straight stakes wins earlier this season.

She is a big part of the reason Yes It's True ranks among the nation's top 25 sires, with eight stakes winners and earnings of more than $5,300,000.

In the Iroquois, La Verdad broke well and headed straight for the front, setting fractions of ::22.51, :45.52 and 1:10.43, en route to 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:17.13. "This filly is unbelievable," jockey Jose Ortiz told the media afterwards. "She broke good, she put me in the lead...and when I asked her to run, she went very well."

Bred in New York by Eklekikos Stables, La Verdad  races for Lady Sheila Stable and is trained by Linda Rice. The dark bay filly won four of five last year, and now boasts a two-season record of 15-10-2-0 and $777,700.

Yes It's True has now posted progeny earnings at or near $5,000,000 nine years in a row.
