Anchored by a $750,000 colt, Gun Runner’s first offerings at the 2020 Keeneland September Yearling sale averaged an outstanding $401,000 during Sunday’s opening session.

The former Horse of the Year’s overall 2020 yearling average of $360,416 tops any other First-Crop sire by more than $70,000.

Bred by Winchell Thoroughbreds and consigned by Gainesway, agent, hip No. 175 sold to L&N Racing LLC. The bay juvenile is out of the outstanding Grade 2 winner Fun House, the dam of Champion 3-year-old filly Untapable as well as the millionaire and Grade 1 winner Paddy O’Prado.  Fun House was Broodmare of the Year in 2014.

A little earlier in the session hip No. 156, consigned by Runnymede Farm, agent, went to Robert Baker and William Mack for $510,000. The colt’s dam Esprit de Vie is a to a trio of Graded winners.

Keeneland’s Book 1 session continues Monday, with Gun Runner having five lots scheduled to go through the ring.
