Will Take Charge now has a half-dozen first-crop winners after Stormy D took a one-mile turf race at Gulfstream Park on Sept. 20.
The 2-year-old filly won the hard-fought contest by a head over She’s an Introvert after a tough stretch battle. She had been fifth for most of the trip before making a three-wide move at the top of the lane to engage the eventual runner-up.
Stormy D was making her second start, and first on the grass after a main track sprint debut a month ago. The winner is owned by DJ Stable and Aron Yagoda and was bred by Colts Neck Stables LLC. Stormy D’s dam, the stakes winner Stormy Dixie, is a sister to Grade 1 winner Turbo Compressor.
Will Take Charge, a top-five Freshman Sire, has had an excellent September, chalking up his first stakes winner, Kim K in the $100,000 Barretts Debutante S., as well as his first graded stakes-placed runner in Lightscameraaction in the Poahontas S. (G2).
