Gun Runner wrapped up an incredible first four days of the Keeneland sale with another session-best colt on Thursday when hip No. 969 sold for $1.55 million, giving the Three Chimneys stallion the session topper each of the first four days, the only stallion to ever do so.

The Thursday leader was bred by Three Chimneys and sold by Four Star Sales, agent. The winning bidder was the team of M.V. Magnier & White Birch Farm.

“Goncalo [Torrealba] is a very good breeder, and he’s out of a good mare,” Magnier said of the yearling’s appeal. “So we are happy enough to get him.”

The colt is the second foal out of Grade 3 winner Twenty Carat, who is a half-sister to Gun Runner’s stakes winner Point Proven. This is also the immediate family of the Breeders’ Cup-winning mother-daughter combo of Shared Account and Sharing.

Gun Runner now has 17 yearlings bring at least $1 million this year, and is the first sire since Danzig, Storm Cat, Kingmambo and Mr. Prospector to have a $1,000,000 yearling average.

The Keeneland sale, which runs through Sept. 20, will take a break Friday before resuming with the auction on Saturday morning.
