In Sunday’s Las Virgenes S., Meaning had the unenviable task of facing Super Corredora and Explora, the one-two finishers in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1), but Meaning proved the most formidable of all after winning a stretch-long duel with Explora to score by 1 ½-lengths on the wire.
Meaning, who was fourth in that Breeders’ Cup race in what was her first two-turn race, was able to stalk Super Corredora and Explora, who sped through an opening half-mile of :45.98. Meaning pulled even with the frontrunners going into the far turn before she and Explora set the stage for the stretch run. Explora was game but could not hold off the winner in the final sixteenth.
With her win, Meaning picked up 20 points to the Kentucky Oaks, upping her total to 26.
Owned by Bridlewood Farm and Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, Meaning has two wins in three starts and has earned $187,000.
“This is a filly we thought highly of from day one,” said Eclipse Thoroughbred’s Aron Wellman on FanDuel TV after the Las Virgenes.
Bred in Kentucky by Stonehaven Steadings, Meaning sold for $440,000 to her owner at the 2024 Keeneland September sale.
Gun Runner’s fillies had a productive weekend on the Road to the Kentucky Oaks, with Search Party dominating the Martha Washington S. at Oaklawn Park and Life of Joy finishing second in the Suncoast S. at Tampa Bay Downs. All three fillies are currently in the top 10 on the Oaks leaderboard.
