In Scope bounded away from the field in the stretch to score a 3 ½-maiden special weight win May 22 at Churchill Downs, garnering the 3-year-old Gun Runner filly a TDN ‘Rising Star’ tag.

The chestnut is the 23rd lifetime Rising Star for Gun Runner, a list that dates back nearly five years when future champion Echo Zulu broke her maiden at Saratoga. Other notable Rising Stars for Gun Runner include Locked, Sierra Leone, Further Ado and this year’s Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner Always a Runner.

Going a mile over a very sloppy racetrack, In Scope was just off the lead for the long backstretch run. She moved to second going into the turn, easily took over from Aegis outside the quarter pole, then widened down the stretch to win comfortably.

Third in her debut a month prior to Friday’s win, In Scope has earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 90 in both her starts. She is owned by G. Watts Humphrey, Jr. who purchased her for $335,000 at the 2024 Keeneland September Yearling sale from breeder Dixiana Farm’s consignment.
