FMQ Stables & Three Chimneys Farm went to $525,000 to secure Volatile’s hip No. 2151 on Tuesday at the Keeneland September Yearling sale. The price would ultimately be the highest paid for a filly in book 4.
Consigned by Lane’s End, agent for breeders Mesingw Farm, the gray/roan filly who is already named Capriciousness is out of the Street Sense mare Catbrier, who is also the dam of Kentucky Downs Juvenile Fillies S. winner Meringue.
After a banner year in 2025 when Volatile finished in the top 5 on the Second-Crop Sire list, that momentum has carried forward throughout 2026. His son T O Elvis beat a top-class field in the $1 million Churchill Downs S. (G1) on Derby Day and Come Candela was also a Grade 1 winner in Central America one day later. More recently, Volatile’s 3-year-old colt Igniter took the $400,000 Ellis Park Derby and this past weekend Outmatch scored in the Iowa Breeders’ Derby.
Volatile stood the 2026 season for $10,000 S&N.
