Sharp Azteca’s list of First-Crop winners grew to seven on July 3 when Blackteca won his career debut in a 4 ½-furlong maiden special weight race for 2-year-olds at Canterbury Park.

Each of Sharp Azteca’s seven winners have come at different tracks, and also in three different countries. The Three Chimneys stallion ranks second to Bolt d’Oro on the First-Crop list by winners. Two of those winners, Realitos and Tyler’s Tribe, and entered in the $100,000 Prairie Gold Juvenile S. on July 9.

Blackteca, who was in post 1, flew from the gate to take the lead right away. Summer All Year took up the chase, and though he made several attempts to get the lead, Blackteca turned him away each time, winning by a neck in :52.33 on a fast track.

The bay colt was bred by Rebecca Farms, LLC and T J Dickey and is owned by Al and Bill Ulwelling. Through his fourth dam, Blackteca is related to the multiple Grade 1 winner and top handicap horse of the 1990’s Devil His Due.
