Top-five First-Crop sire Will Take Charge chalked up his ninth winner Oct. 28 at Churchill Downs when Blue Steel rolled to a five-length maiden special weight victory at seven furlongs (VIDEO).

In addition to his impressive list of winners, which includes four stakes horses, Will Take Charge will have his first Breeders’ Cup starter on Friday at Churchill when Derby Date contests the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1).

Blue Steel, who had a rough trip in his Sept. 15 debut, made the lead soon after the start on Sunday. He set a solid pace of :45.58 for the first half-mile, then drew off in the stretch to win impressively in 1:23.92 on a fast track.

The winner was bred by Machmer Hall and is owned by Spendthrift Farm, who purchased the chestnut colt for $170,000 at the 2017 Keeneland September Yearling sale.
