Cara Marie handled the jump up to stakes company to the tune of a 2 ½-length victory in the $75,000-added Indy Star S. Saturday, May 30 at Indiana Grand.
Cara Marie, 3, is now two for five lifetime. She more than tripled her career earnings with the victory for owner Three Chimneys Farm.
Starting from post one in the eight-horse lineup, Cara Marie got away to the lead immediately the early and set a sensible pace of :46 1/5 for the half-mile. Mizz Money was her closest pursuer, but turning for home Cara Marie began to pull away and came home a comfortable winner in 1:28 1/5 for the 7 ½-furlongs on the firm turf.
“I entered her (Cara Marie) for a race at Churchill (Downs) for Thursday because I thought this race came up tough and if it came off (the turf) we thought about having a backup plan,” said winning trainer Kellyn Gorder. “We’re looking at the Ta Wee next out. That’s something we’re eyeing. We’ll see how she comes out and talk with the owners.”
A $460,000 yearling purchase at the 2013 Keeneland September sale, Cara Marie is by Unbridled’s Song out of the A.P. Indy mare Miss Kilroy.
The $100,000 Ta Wee S., at one mile on the turf, is for three-year-old fillies and is slated for Friday, July 17 at Indiana Grand.
