Three Chimneys Farm’s and e Five Racing’s stakes-placed colt kicked off his 2022 campaign with a sharp allowance win Jan. 7 at Gulfstream Park, threading his way between horses in midstretch to win the 6 ½-furlong contest by 1 ¾-lengths.

Trained by Saffie Joseph, Jr., the 4-year-old colt covered the distance in 1:15.49, just a second off the track record. He earned an excellent Beyer Speed Figure of 94, a career-best to this point.

“I thought the whole race he was begging to get out for some room,” Joseph said. “As a big horse, he didn’t want him to get checked. It was impressive. He’s just a talented horse. We’ll just stick to one turn and hopefully he can have a big future. I think a one-turn mile is going to be his best distance. Today was a good comeback, as good as we can ask for.”

Collaborate burst on the scene last February when he broke his maiden over this same track by a dozen lengths (earning a TDN Rising Star), then later placed in the Roar S. in May. Given the last half of 2021 off, Collaborate’s record now stands at 3-0-1 in seven starts, with earnings of $117,850.

Bred by Three Chimneys, Collaborate is by Into Mischief and out of Fair Grounds Oaks (G2) winner Quiet Temper. She has a 3-year-old filly and a yearling colt by Three Chimneys leading Freshman Sire of 2021 Gun Runner.
