Cort’n Asong, co-owned by Three Chimneys Farm and Bridlewood Farm, sauntered to a front-running 1 ¼-length victory in a nine furlong maiden special weight contest May 30 at Woodbine.
The winner, a 3-year-old son of Unbridled’s Song, debuted at Keeneland on April 18, where he was beaten three lengths. The Mark Casse trainee tipped his hand for Saturday’s affair with a bullet five furlong work on Woodbine’s turf on May 22.
Once the gates sprang, Cort’n Asong broke on top from the rail, and though he got some pressure the first six furlongs, he pulled away after that to get the distance in 1:51.15 on the firm turf.
The gray/roan colt picked up $48.806 for the win. Bred in Kentucky by Town & Country Farm, Cort’n Asong is out of the A.P. Indy mare Miss Cort’n and is a half-brother to stakes winners Carson City Babe and Pressed.
