Bragging gave her connections plenty to crow about with a come-from-behind victory in the Group 2 Dahlia S. at nine furlongs in Newmarket, England.
Making her first start of the year for trainer Sir Michael Stoute, the 4-year-old filly tracked the early pace a few lengths off the lead before quickening late under Ryan Moore to win by about three parts of a length in 1:48.33 for the nine furlongs on a “good” turf course.
“The pace was a bit slow early on and I was getting a bit messed around,” said Moore. “She was caught a bit for pace when they quickened but she’s very tough and stayed on well.”
“She proved that she wants at least 10 furlongs, so we are delighted with that performance,” added Stoute. “We’ll stop and think and see how she comes out of it and what’s available. I don’t think she’ll go for the G2 Duke of Cambridge S. (at Royal Ascot June 17), which was our winter thought and so the G1 Pretty Polly S. (at The Curragh June 28) could be on her agenda. She is improving physically and has a lot of scope. She is very athletic and has a great mind–she always has done–and we really do like this filly.”
Bragging is one of six graded stakes winners, on three different continents, this year by Exchange Rate. His results at the recently concluded Keeneland meeting included victories by Ball Dancing in the Jenny Wiley S. (G1) and Miss Ella in the Beaumont S. (G2).
Bragging is owned by her breeder Juddmonte Farm and is 4-2-1 in her seven starts.
