Breeders’ Cup winner and millionaire Caleb’s Posse was represented by his first winner on April 28 when the first-time starter I Shod the Sheriff won a 4 1/2-furlong Gulfstream Park maiden special weight contest by a widening 3 1/2-lengths.
The bay 2-year-old had the lead in Thursday’s sprint from the outset, pulling away in the final eighth mile to get the distance in :52.17 on the fast track.
The winner was bred in Kentucky by Glenmalure Farm LLC and is owned by PTK, LLC, who purchased the colt at the 2015 Keeneland September Yearling sale.
I Shod the Sheriff was the first starter for Caleb’s Posse, whose Eclipse Award finalist 3-year-old season included victories in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1), the King’s Bishop S. (G1) and Amsterdam S.(G2). He is standing this year at Three Chimneys Farm for $5,000 stands and nurses.
