Funtastic Again sprang out of the gate on top and never looked back to score his first graded stakes victory in the $150,000 Dominion Day S. (G3) June 28 at Woodbine.
The 5-year-old son of Funtastic, who is owned by Three Chimneys Farm, is now 5-2-2 from 13 starts and has earned $502,605.
Funtastic Again, under expert handling by Victor Espinoza, settled nicely on the front end and had at least a length on the field as he set moderate fractions of :48.53 and 1:12.67. At the top of the stretch, he sprinted away from the field and was full of run through the lane to finish the 1 1/8-miles on the synthetic surface in 1:49.28.
“Just win the race,” said Espinoza about his instructions from trainer Wesley Ward. “Basically, he said he [Funtastic Again] prefers to go to the front, but he can rate a little bit in behind, too. He ran an amazing race. I was just cruising with him. I was just attached to his back and that’s all I had to do.”
Bred in Kentucky by BHMFR, LLC, Funtastic Again was a $60,000 purchase at the 2020 Keeneland November sale and is out of Repeta, also the dam of two-time graded winner Mucho Del Oro and stakes winner Reliable Source.
