Top-three First-Crop sire Palace Malice registered his 18th winner on Dec. 1 at Gulfstream Park when the 2-year-old filly Grudge held off Choose to Be Happy to win the five-furlong turf contest by a neck.

Palace Malice’s juveniles have won in excess of $1.7 million this year, led by Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) winner Structor, one of his sire’s four stakes horses.

Grudge, who broke from post nine in the 10-horse field, was hung three or four wide the entire trip. She sat a few lengths from the front early on, then made her bid for the lead in mid-stretch to take command for good with a furlong to run, finishing the distance in :56.73.

Grudge sold for $170,000 following a :10 1/5 furlong work at this year’s OBS March 2-year-old sale. Her dam Pilamaya produced a filly by Palace Malice in 2018. Grudge was bred by Stephanie Baltzan.
