Winchell Racing LLC and Three Chimneys Farm’s Gun Runner had his second breeze at Churchill Downs on April 11 since arriving at the Louisville oval, getting five furlongs in 1:01 in a move that went smoothly under the watchful eye of Scott Blasi, long-time assistant to trainer Steve Asmussen.

“He’s definitely changed physically and he’s getting there,” Blasi said in reference to the colt’s two-year-old season. “He’s still playful but he’s definitely getting there. It’s nice to have him here. He’s settled in how we’ve wanted him to and hopefully we’ll have good works leading up to the Derby.”

Churchill Downs clockers caught Gun Runner in eighth-mile splits of :12.40, :24.20 and :36.40 before galloping out six furlongs in 1:14.20.

Winner of the Louisiana Derby (G2) and Risen Star S. (G2) during the recently concluded Fair Grounds Meet, Gun Runner has the most points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby Challenge with 151.

Blasi said Gun Runner will work again on April 18.
