Dry Powder was much the best in Tuesday’s $200,000 Cathryn Sophia S. at Parx, drawing off in the stretch to score her first stakes win by 4 ¼-lengths.
The 3-year-old filly is the 44th lifetime stakes winner for Gun Runner, who is currently second on the General Sire list with $11.8 million in progeny earnings and 14 stakes winners in 2025.
Breaking from post 11 in the field of 13, Dry Powder made her way into third as the field rounded the first turn. She held her spot down the backstretch while three-wide after a half-mile in :46.78. By the time she hit the six-furlong mark, Dry Powder had taken over the lead from Taliesin, then pulled clear down the lane to finish the 1 mile and 70 yards in 1:40.59.
Dry Powder now sports a record of 2-2-1 in five starts and has earned $245,400 for owner Gold Square LLC. The dark bay filly, who sold for $525,000 at the 2023 Keeneland September sale, was bred by Corser Thoroughbreds LLC.
