Three Chimneys’ flagship sire Gun Runner closed out the 2025 yearling sales season as the Leading Sire by Yearling Average with an extraordinary $994,479 average.
In a year that showcased his remarkable consistency and commercial appeal, 17 Gun Runner yearlings sold for $1 million or more, underscoring his unmatched demand in the marketplace.
Gun Runner’s influence was particularly dominant at the Keeneland September Sale, achieving a feat never before accomplished — he was the only stallion to sire the toppers of the first four sessions, a testament to both his elite progeny and enduring influence across the industry.
Gun Runner’s Keeneland sale-topper was a $3.3 million colt purchased by M. V. Magnier, White Birch and Winchell Thoroughbreds and consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale at Xalapa, who co-bred the colt with Determined Stud.
At the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearlings sale, Gun Runner had three lots bring between $2.9 and $2.6 million, topped by a colt bred by Three Chimneys Farm that went to Zedan Racing and was consigned by Four Star Sales.
Reflecting on the momentum behind Gun Runner’s remarkable sales year, Three Chimneys Farm Manager Tony Cissell shared:
“Just incredible results. But I think that just shows that they run. He’s got Brant, undefeated 2-year-old, running in the Breeders’ Cup (Juvenile) and previous Breeders’ Cup (Classic) Winner, Sierra Leone. So, he’s getting it done on the racetrack as well and I think that’s what pushes those sales averages up so high.”
