For the third consecutive day at the Keeneland September Yearling sale Gun Runner had the session topper, the latest coming Wednesday when hip No. 731 brought a winning bid of $1.9 million.

Consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale at Xalapa, agent, the colt sold to Spendthrift Farm and was co-bred by GRS and Bob Baffert.

“He was a beautiful colt,” said Spendthrift’s Ned Toffey. “We thought he was one of the best colts in the sale today. We are really happy to get him because it’s been a tough market. Nobody is really stealing much here.”

The dark bay colt is the second foal out of stakes-placed Ginja, who Baffert trained. Ginja is a half-sister to Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) runner-up Top Decile, who in turn is the dam of Japanese champion colt Danon Decile.
