Echo Zulu was a key component in Gun Runner’s record-breaking season as the 2021 leading First-Crop sire, and on Thursday she won the 2021 Eclipse Award as the Champion 2-year-old Filly at the ceremony held at Santa Anita Park.

Ron Winchell, co-owner with L and N Racing LLC, accepted the award on behalf of the partnership, thanking his trainer Steve Asmussen, jockeys Ricardo Santana, Jr. and Joel Rosario, and the voters.

Echo Zulu capped her undefeated season with a 5 ¼-length victory in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1). Prior to that, she won the Frizette S. (G1) and Spinaway (G1), and a maiden debut at Saratoga. Her earnings stand at $1,480,000 as she prepares for her 2022 campaign.

Echo Zulu was one of Gun Runner’s four graded stakes winners in 2021. He has gotten off to a red-hot start this year, with three new stakes winners and six stakes horses in the first five weeks of 2022.
