Military Time scored a dramatic victory in the $400,000 Prince of Wales S. Sept. 7 at Fort Erie, out dueling Brachetto and Buium in the middle jewel of the Canadian Triple Crown.
Military Time is Gun Runner’s 15th stakes winner of 2026. Gun Runner is the nation’s leading sire of 3-year-olds, accounting for the winner of this year’s Travers S. (G1), Blue Grass S. (G1), Kentucky Oaks (G1) and Alabama S. (G1).
Sent away the favorite in Monday’s 1 3/16-mile contest, Military Time took up a spot in fourth along the rail as a speed duel evolved a few lengths in front of him. The chestnut colt bided his time along the fence until swinging out into the three path just before turning for home. Military Time poked his nose in front of pacesetter Keepmypowderdry with a furlong to go, then held off the closers to finish in 1:56.02 on a fast track.
“He jumped away good at the gate, and I knew I wanted to be forwardly placed because of how the track has been playing today. We found our position and he settled beautifully for me,” jockey Fraser Aebly said. “I knew the one inside me at the quarter pole was quickening pretty good too, but I knew I had enough horse to keep my position, and he kept running.”
The Prince of Wales marked the first stakes win for Military Time, who was second on last month’s Queen’s Plate S. and third in the Plate Trial S. prior to that.
Bred in Ontario by Adena Springs, Military Time was a $350,000 purchase by Monique Delk out of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale. Owned by St. Elias Stable and Gary Barber, the colt is now 3-3-1 from 8 starts, with earnings of $512,614.
