Super Corredora took the lead less than a furlong after the start of the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) and was never headed again, digging in late to hold off Explora by a length to become the third Breeders’ Cup winner for Gun Runner.
The bay filly also became racing’s newest millionaire with the win, as well as the 12th lifetime Grade 1 winner for Gun Runner.
After getting the lead in the first furlong, Super Corredora posted a very brisk half-mile of :45.63. She maintained her one-length lead at every point of call, with La Wally second for the first six furlongs, then Explora making her run in the stretch. Super Corredora held them all off and finished in 1:43.71 for the 1 1/16-miles on a fast track.
“I always expected her to improve around two turns,” said trainer John Sadler. The Gun Runners, there’s not a hotter stallion in the country than Gun Runner.”
After a pair of maiden efforts sprinting, Super Corredora rolled to an 8 ¼-length maiden romp when stretched out to a mile on Oct. 4. She is now 2-1-0 in four starts and has earned $1,093,600 for owners Spartan Equine Racing, West Point Thoroughbreds, Robert C Gardiner & Michael W Olszewski.
Super Corredora, a $400,000 Keeneland September yearling, was bred by Woodford Thoroughbreds, LLC.
