Palace Malice got his 15th First-Crop winner on Nov. 16 when Mr. Monomoy cruised to a 5 1/2-length maiden special weight win at Churchill Downs (VIDEO).
The 2-year-old colt is a half-brother to Monomoy Girl, last year’s 3-year-old Champion Filly. The comfortable victory earned the regally-bred bay a “TDN Rising Star” tag, the first for Palace Malice, currently third on the 2019 Freshman Sire list and one of only two first-year sires to sire a Breeders’ Cup winner.
After a very troubled trip in his Oct. 19 debut, Mr. Monomoy made his way to the front soon after the outset of Saturday’s 6 1/2-furlong affair. In hand the entire trip, he led the way through a half-mile in :46.68, then pulled away effortlessly for the win.
The winner was bred by FPF LLC and Highfield Ranch and sold for about $200,000 at the Arquana May sale to owners Madaket Stables, Michael Dubb and Doheny Racing Stable.
