Nicky’s Brown Miss broke her maiden in Saturday’s $200,000 Kentucky Downs Juvenile Fillies, simultaneously giving breeder/owner/trainer Savino Capilupi his first victory as a trainer (VIDEO).
The win gave Big Brown seven stakes winners and more than $2.5 million in progeny earnings this year, both ranking him in the top 10 on the Third-Crop sire list.
With its long stretch, the European style Kentucky Downs turf course suited the running style of Nicky’s Brown Miss. After sitting in mid-pack early, the bay homebred rallied on the outside in the final quarter mile to win going away by 2 ¾-lengths, leaving Capilupi elated.
“It’s more than I could ever ask for,” said the overjoyed trainer. “I told myself not to cry but I’m just so happy right now.”
Nicky’s Brown Miss banked $122,000 for her win. Previously, she was third in the Aug. 10 Colleen S. at Monmouth Park.
The bay is the first registered foal from the multiple stakes-placed Successful Appeal mare Nicksappealinglady, who hails from the immediate family of multiple Grade 1 winner and $1.9 million-earner Ladies Din.
