Gun Runner got his latest stakes winner on July 5 when Point Proven overcame an extremely wide trip to win the $75,000 John Henry S. at Evangeline Downs [WATCH RACE].
The 5-year-old is the 11th stakes winner this year for Gun Runner, trailing only Into Mischief on the General Sire list.
Point Proven settled near the back of the 12-horse field after the break and sat in ninth place, so eight lengths off the leaders, through the first six furlongs. When called upon he began to make his way around horses and came seven-wide into the stretch. Full of run through the lane, Point Proven took the lead inside the final furlong and went on to win by 1 ¼-lengths in 1:42.92 for the 1 1/16-miles on a firm turf course.
Owned by Norman C. Miller IV, Point Proven is 5-1-4 in 18 starts and has earned $249,730.
The winner was bred by Three Chimneys Farm LLC and hails from a deep female family. His dam Secret Jewel is also responsible for Beaumont S. (G3) winner Twenty Carat. Secret Jewel is a sister to a trio of graded stakes winners: Shared Account, Colonial Flag and Sparkle Blue.
