Sharp Azteca’s runners are winning at a torrid pace in the past week, the latest coming Saturday evening at Prairie Meadows when Acceleritas got his first win in a 5 ½-furlong maiden special weight race for 2-year-olds.

Acceleritas is the fourth maiden winner in the past two days for Sharp Azteca, who now leads the First-Crop Sire list with a total of 16 to date.

After an early pace duel and putting away Higgam at the top of the stretch, Acceleritas dug in gamely in the final furlong to best Spumoni Float by a half-length on the wire.

The winner is owned by his trainer Kevin Eikleberry along with Umbrella Stables II and Reunion Racing Stables LLC. The dark bay was bred by Christine Aaron Hicklin DVM and is out of the two-time stakes winner Celeritas.
