Guntown became Gun Runner’s 10th First-Crop winner in an one-mile maiden special weight race at Ellis Park, drawing off late to win by 4 1/4-lengths.

Gun Runner leads all Freshman Sires by progeny earnings, with $782,036, and also leads by graded stakes winners by virtue of Wicked Halo’s Adirondack S. (G2) win and Pappacap’s victory in the Best Pal S. (G2) last weekend.

Guntown, who was third on debut at seven furlongs, was at his best in the stretch on Friday. He stalked Ignitis through six furlongs in 1:11.80, then easily took command in the lane to win very comfortably in 1:35.96 on the fast main track.

Guntown was bred and is owned by Winchell Thoroughbreds. Out of Fun House, he is a half-brother to Winchell’s 3-year-old filly champion of 2014 Untapable, who earned nearly $4 million in her career, as well as Grade 1 winner and millionaire Paddy O’Prado.

Gun Runner’s upcoming entries this weekend include the duo of Red Run and Gunite in the Saratoga Special (G2), Joyrunner in the Ellis Park Debutante S., and Costa Terra in the Ellis Park Juvenile S.
