Running Legacy added to Gun Runner’s record-setting year with a sharp-looking maiden special weight win Dec. 9 at Gulfstream Park, drawing away in the final furlong to win her debut by 1 ¼-lengths.

The 2-year-old filly is the 23rd winner from her sire’s first crop of runners and pushed his progeny earnings to $3.92 million, the most ever for a First-Crop sire.

Running Legacy was in between and behind horses for most of the 1 mile and 70-yard trip before finding an opening between horses with about a furlong to run. She shot through and was full of run to the wire to win handily in 1:43.34 on the Tapeta surface.

Running Legacy races for her breeder Edward Seltzer. The chestnut filly is the latest of 13 foals to race out of True Legacy (GB) and is a half-sister to graded stakes winner Verdana Bold.

In addition to his growing record-setting earnings title, Gun Runner also leads the Freshman Sire list with 33 winners, four graded stakes winners and a pair of Grade 1 winners, topped by the undefeated Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) winner and presumptive 2-year-old female champion Echo Zulu.
