Sharp Azteca solidified his spot atop the First-Crop sire list with his 24th winner coming Wednesday at Presque Isle Downs when Aztec Princess won a one-mile maiden special weight race for 2-year-old fillies.

Aztec Princess raced in the middle of the pack for the first half of the contest, then came around horses on the final bend to make her presence felt at the top of the stretch. She took the lead inside the final furlong and held off Compass Rises to win by a half-length.

The winner was bred by Blazing Meadows Farm LLC and Siena Farm LLC and races in the colors of the latter. Aztec Princess’ is out of QueenofPerfection, a half-sister to graded stakes winner Golden Hawk. Her third dam Silken Cat is the dam of Speightstown and Blue Grass S. (G2) winner Irap.

Sharp Azteca’s impressive list of winners is led by the undefeated and unchallenged Tyler’s Tribe, who will make his next start in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1).
