With a pair of maiden special weight winners in back-to-back days, Sharp Azteca moved to the top of the First-Crop Sire list, sharing the lead with Bolt d’Oro with a trio of winners.

After getting his first winner on May 27, Sharp Azteca struck with Realitos at Lone Star Park on June 9, then Sharp Aza Tack at Santa Anita Park on June 10.

Realitos, owned by William & Corinne Heiligbrodt and Jackpot Farm, was bred by Cloyce Clark, Jr. The dark bay filly won the five-furlong race in gate-to-wire fashion, scoring by 3 ¾-lengths after drawing off smartly in the final furlong.

Sharp Aza Tack also won at five furlongs, but on the turf, and in front-running style. The dark bay colt was 2 ¼-lengths to the good on the wire. Sharp Aza Tack is owned by R3 Racing LLC and was bred in Kentucky by Joe and Emily Cowles. Trainer Doug O’Neill purchased the 2-year-old for $100,000 out of this year’s OBS March Sale.
