Shotgun Hottie gave leading First-Crop sire Gun Runner his 22nd winner in a Sunday maiden special weight race at Churchill Downs, as well as propelling the Three Chimneys stallion to the all-time progeny earnings mark for a freshman sire.

After rallying into contention around the final turn, Shotgun Hottie found herself neck and neck with Butterbean for the win. Butterbean took a short lead in the final furlong before Shotgun Hottie re-rallied to win the 1 1/16-mile race for 2-year-old fillies by three-quarters of a length.

The winner is owned by Omar Aldabbagh and Jeff Ganje and was bred in Kentucky by Vincent Colbert. She is out of the unraced Malibu Moon mare Re Entry, who is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Sky Diva and multiple stakes winner Quick Little Miss. This is also the family of multiple Grade 1 winner Pure Clan.

With just over a month to go in the year, Gun Runner’s progeny earnings stand at $3,827,373. Shotgun Hottie’s win in Sunday’s $92,000 race pushed Gun Runner past Uncle Mo’s 2015 record of $3,717,490.
