Highland Glory is a perfect two-for-two on the turf after her gallant victory in Saturday’s $100,000 Sanibel Island S. at Gulfstream Park. The 3-year-old Sky Mesa filly took a maiden special weight grass race in January and is now 2-1-0 in four outings and has earned $106,580.

The one-mile Sanibel Island wasn’t decided until the final few strides. Cheermeister got the lead immediately and set the pace for the first six furlongs. Highland Glory, meanwhile, was three or four wide on both turns before launching her bid from mid-pack with three furlongs to run. Cheermeister turned away her challengers until Highland Glory surged very late to win by a neck in 1:34.42.

Highland Glory is owned by Steadfast Stable and was bred by Bonner Young. Highland Glory is out of Kristi With a K and is a full sister to multiple stakes winner Highland Sky. Kristi With a K is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Big of Whimsy.

Sky Mesa is the sire of more than 70 stakes winners, 25 of them graded, and five champions lifetime. His runners have earned more than $60 million. He is standing this year at Three Chimneys for $15,000, stands and nurses.
