Three Chimneys Farm’s Grade 1 winner Strong Mandate was represented by his first winner on June 17 when Strong Will went gate-to-wire to win a 4 1/2-furlong maiden special weight 2-year-old contest by 2 1/4-lengths at Arlington Park.
Making his debut for owner Carolyn Wilson, the $775,000 OBS March Sale of 2-year-olds graduate ran to his purchase price, leading nearly the entire trip to handily defeat runner-up Dazzling Truths. It was some 10 lengths back to the rest of the field.
Strong Will covered the distance in a solid :52.24 on a fast main track.
Bred in Kentucky by Golden Pedigree LLC, Strong Will is the first foal out of the Majestic Warrior mare Magestic Stinger. Strong Will had worked a bullet furlong in :9 4/5 seconds at OBS, which prompted the lively bidding for the bay colt.
Strong Mandate has been among the top five on the First-Crop Sire list at the 2-year-old sales this year, with an average price of $156,050 to date. Strong Will’s sale price was the highest paid for a 2-year-old colt at auction this year by a freshman sire.
Strong Mandate, a son of champion Tiznow and winner of the Grade 1 Hopeful S. at two, entered stud at Three Chimneys in 2015 and now stands for $10,000 live foal. For more information about Strong Mandate, please contact Rebecca Nicholson at 859-873-7053, or visit threechimneys.com.
