Strong Mandate’s first crop of 2-year-olds continued to be among the most sought after of any freshman sire during the first session of the April 24-27 OBS 2-year-old sale.

Tuesday’s session featured a $550,000 colt by the Three Chimneys stallion, the top price paid for a colt and the second-highest overall on the day.

Hip No. 144 was consigned by Niall Brennan, agent and went to Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and E R J Racing. The colt had worked a furlong in 10 seconds flat during last week’s Under Tack show.

The dark bay is the first foal out of the Majestic Warrior mare Callous Effect, who is a half-sister to stakes winner Miss Frost. The colt’s third dam is Grade 1 winner Pharma and his fourth dam Committed was a four-time champion in England and France.

Strong Mandate has an additional 10 lots cataloged in the final three days of the Ocala auction.
