With Great White in the Kentucky Derby (G1), T O Elvis in the Churchill Downs S. (G1) and Creole Chrome in the Pat Day Mile (G2), top-five Third-Crop sire Volatile is very well-represented on Saturday’s stakes-filled card at Churchill Downs.
Great White, who was first on the Derby also-eligible list, drew into the Run for the Roses on Wednesday with the scratch of Silent Tactic. A massive beautiful gray, Great White wintered at Turfway Park, where he won the John Battaglia S. over Fulleffort, who went on the win the Jeff Ruby S. (G3) and ironically will break from just inside Great White on Saturday.
Great White was bred by Stud TNT and is owned by Three Chimneys Farm, LLC and John Ennis, who is also the Kentucky-bred’s trainer. Great White will be ridden in the Derby by Alex Achard.
The Derby is race 12 on Saturday, with a post time of 6:57 pm ET.
In the seven-furlong Churchill Downs, T O Elvis ships in from his home country of Japan. The 4-year-old has won his last four starts, three of them stakes, by a total of 15 lengths. T O Elvis is trained by Daisuke Takayanagi, who also has Wonder Dean (JPN) in the Derby. T O Elvis will be ridden by Ryusei Sakai from post 8
T O Elvis is owned by Tomoya Ozasa and was bred in Kentucky by Jeff and Melissa Prunzik. Out of eight-time stakes winner Stopshoppingdebbie, T O Elvis is a half-brother to stakes winner Generous Tipper.
The Churchill Downs is race 10 on Saturday, with a post time of 4:50 pm ET.
Rounding out Volatile’s formidable trio is Creole Chrome in the one-mile Pat Day Mile for 3-year-olds. Trained by Joe Sharp for Three Diamonds Farm, Creole Chrome wintered at Fair Grounds, where he won three of four starts, including the Louisiana Stallion of the Year Star Guitar S. Since arriving at Churchill, Creole Chrome posted a bullet work of :58 flat for five furlongs on April 25.
Creole Chrome will break from post 8 and be ridden by Irad Ortiz, Jr.
Bred by Gulf Haven Farms, LLC, Creole Chrome is out of Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) winner Funny Moon.
