Herrschaft earned 40 points on the Japanese Road to the Kentucky Derby (G1) challenge by virtue of his three-length victory in Saturday’s $320,000 Fukuryu S. at Nakayama Racecourse in Japan.

With the Derby delayed until September, more qualifying races could be added to the Japanese schedule, but for now Herrschaft has secured his spot in the starting gate in Louisville should his connections choose to run him.

Herrschaft came out of post 2 very sharply and took the lead immediately. He led the field the entire 1,800 meter trip, easily repelling a challenge at the top of the stretch to win handily.

Herrschaft has won three of his six starts and banked $323,139. He sold to his owner Kanayama Holdings Co., Ltd. for $200,000 at the 2018 Keeneland September Yearling sale. The winner was bred by Colts, LLC in Kentucky and is from the family of graded winners Century City and Alywow.

Will Take Charge, who is standing this year for $15,000, is the leading cumulative Third-Crop Sire by graded stakes horses and a top-five sire by black type horses and winners.
