Yes I’m Lucky continued to roll up the stakes wins with a gritty win in the $75,000 Mr. Light S., a mile turf race for 3-year-olds, April 5 at Gulfstream Park.

Overcoming the challenge of a 3 1/2-month layoff, Yes I’m Lucky was tucked in fourth along the rail early on, then made a bid for the lead on the turn, battled down the stretch with Cabo Cat, ultimately prevailing by a head in a solid 1:34.20 on the firm turf.

“Eddie told me to take a hold of my horse, because I know he has speed,” said winning jockey Paco Lopez. “We had a little trouble at the half-mile pole, but I had a lot of horse and he wasn’t scared.

I knew Joe Bravo (aboard Cabo Cat) was coming, but when I changed the whip, he gave me more,” Lopez continued.”When Joe came to me I wasn’t worried, because I knew I had a lot of horse and I was really comfortable. I think the time off for this horse was good, he came back feeling good and fresh.”

Bred in Kentucky by, Yes I’m Lucky was obtained by his owners out of the 2013 OBS Select 2-year-old sale, going to $105,000 to secure the colt. Yes I’m Lucky is out of Whenthedoveflies, winner of seven stakes in her stellar career.
