Noble and a Beauty, who was raised at Three Chimneys Farm, scored the first stakes win of her young career in the $100,000 Cicada S. March 15 at Aqueduct.
The 3-year-old is a daughter of Noble Causeway and is owned by her breeder My Meadowview Farm, who also raced her sire.
Making her third career start in the six-furlong Cicada, Noble and a Beauty was coming off a heart-breaking nose loss in the Ruthless S. in early January, also at Aqueduct.
She left little doubt who was best in the Cicada. After a good break, she settled in third, then came three-wide on the turn to take aim at the lead. Cut loose at the top of the stretch by jockey Jose Ortiz, she vaulted away from the field, winning by eight lengths in in 1:13.74 on a “good” inner Aqueduct track.
“She broke good and everything went like we hoped,” said Ortiz. “The 6 (Overprepared) had blinkers on, so I let her go, then I put myself sitting third on the outside, so she was in perfect position. When I asked her to go I had of plenty of horse. She relaxes well and is a really nice horse.”
“She gets all the credit,” said Rusty Myers, assistant to Noble and a Beauty’s trainer, Rick Violette, Jr. “I just hang around with her. She was very professional. We’ll see what Len (Riggio, owner of My Meadowview farm) and (Rick) want to do and go from there. Two turns has been the ultimate goal, we’ll see what we can do on the outer track.”
Noble and a Beauty is now two-for-three lifetime and has earned $116,000. The Kentucky-bred filly is out Overandabeauty, a two-time stakes winner who is a half-sister to last year’s leading General sire Tapit.
