Gun Runner had a spectacular day during the second session of the 2025 Keeneland September yearling sale, leading all sires with six lots bringing at least $1 million and a total session average of $1,103,846 from 13 lots sold.

Leading the way was hip No. 243, a colt bred by Three Chimneys Farm and consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency. The winning bid of $2.2 million, by trainer Wesley Ward, would ultimately be the co-highest price paid of the session.

“[Gun Runner is] the hottest sire going right now,” said Ward. “He’s a really, really exciting colt to get in with and as I’m starting to get the white hair now, I’m looking to get horses that go a little further. I’ve pretty much been centered in on fast horses and speed horses and I just thought it was time now to sort of get some horses into my barn that look like they can go in the Classic level. This looks like it could be one.”

The bay colt is out of Amour d’Ete is a sister to champion Speightstown and multiple graded stakes winner Irap. The subject colt is a full brother to Preakness S. (G1) winner and sire Early Voting.

Three Chimneys was the buyer on one of Gun Runner’s $1.6 million colts, hip No. 311, consigned by Four Start Sales, agent. The chestnut colt is closely related to champion Echo Zulu and Grade 1 winner Echo Town.

The second colt to bring $1.6 million was hip No. 296, consigned by Lane’s End, agent and purchased by AMO Racing. Another regally-bred youngster, the chestnut colt is out of Grade 1 winner Dame Dororthy, who is also the dam of graded stakes winner Spice Is Nice.
