Three Chimneys Farm’s first-crop stallion Strong Mandate’s results at Tuesday’s Fasig-Tipton July Sale in Kentucky were solid across the board, with an average of $123,000 and a high mark of $240,000 for a colt by the Grade 1-winning son of Tiznow.
Hip No. 225 was consigned by Four Star Sales, agent, and went to prominent buyer Steve Young, agent. The colt was bred in Kentucky by Connie Brown and Phyllis and Bill Adair.
“The stallion is a big, beautiful horse,” said Deuce Greathouse (who bought the colt for $30,000 at last year’s Keeneland November sale) of Strong Mandate. “He had a little more speed and he has a little more hip than a lot of the Tiznows and you see it in his yearlings. They have a lot of quality and they are very powerful horses.”
The bay colt is a half-brother to the stakes-placed Mineswept, out of Comeon Dixie, who is herself a half-sister to multiple Grade 2 winner Limehouse and Grade 2 winner Blues and Royals.
Strong Mandate’s average at the one-day sale, which kicks off the summer yearling auction season, was more than 12 times his advertised stud fee.
