Anchored by a colt that sold for $2.8 million, Gun Runner finished the opening session of the Keeneland September Yearling sale with seven lots that brought at least $1 million.
Gun Runner has now accounted for more seven-figure yearlings during the first session of the sale than any sire in history.
The day’s session-topper, hip No. 84, was consigned by Four Star Sales for breeder Three Chimneys Farm, LLC and was purchased by RTM Racing, LLC.
Mahmud Mouni, signing the ticket on behalf of the Tagermeen Racing partnership as RTM Racing, has a clear-cut objective for the colt.
“Our dream is for Kentucky,” Mouni said. “We bought the horse for the Kentucky Derby.”
The bay colt is out of the Into Mischief mare Twenty Carat, winner of Keeneland’s Beaumont S. (G3). The subject colt is a full brother to graded stakes-placed French Blue. Further down the catalog page is Shared Account and her daughter Sharing, both Breeders’ Cup winners.
Gun Runner also had the second-highest lot of the day when hip No. 116, consigned by Darby Dan Farm, agent, sold to M. V. Mangier and Peter Brant’s White Birch Farm for $2.3 million. The Kentucky-bred bay is a half-brother to three-time Grade 1 winner Colonel Liam.
Magnier said, “All the lads liked him, Peter Brant liked him. It’s a great pedigree from a very good farm. We haven’t decided where he is going to go, but he will stay in the U.S.”
